Icteria (“we”, “the app”) is an independent research prototype for passive acoustic monitoring. This page explains what data we collect and how it is used. We keep this deliberately short and plain.

What we collect

• Account details. Your email address (and password, stored hashed by our auth provider) when you sign up, or your Google account email if you use Google sign-in.
• Location. The recording location you enter (a place name or coordinates). We use it to tune the calendar, species filtering and nearby sightings. We do not track your device location in the background.
• Recordings & reports. Audio clips you upload for analysis, and the reports generated from them (detected species, confidence, dates, and the location you set), saved to your account so you can revisit them.
• An optional conservation organization you may enter during onboarding.

How we use it

• To run the acoustic analysis and generate your field reports.
• To save your reports and build history-based insights over time, scoped to your account.
• To operate and improve the service. We do not sell your data or use it for advertising.

Services we rely on

To provide the app, your data may pass through these third parties, each under their own terms:

• Supabase — authentication and durable storage of your account and reports.
• Anthropic (Claude) — writes the narrative field report from the analysis data.
• BirdNET, HawkEars, YAMNet — acoustic models run on the audio.
• eBird (Cornell Lab), NOAA / Open-Meteo, BirdWeather, OpenStreetMap — location context (sightings, weather, geocoding). We send coordinates, not your identity, to these.
• Google — only if you choose Google sign-in.

Retention & your choices

Your reports are kept in your account until you or we delete them. You can request deletion of your account and data at any time via the contact below. Uploaded audio is processed to produce your report; the report is stored, and we do not publish your recordings.
